How the academic branch is weighted

Four subjects are worth 10% each: Arabic, English, History and Islamic Education. The two mathematics papers average into a single component worth 20%, and each of the two optional subjects is worth 20% as well — 40% across the four subjects, and 60% across mathematics and the optionals.

A worked example

Every subject is out of 200. Take these marks: Arabic 150, English 170, History 140, Islamic Education 190, mathematics 180 on the first paper and 160 on the second, first optional 120 and second optional 200.

  1. The four subjects total 650, divided by 20 gives 32.50.
  2. The two mathematics papers average to 170, divided by 10 gives 17.00.
  3. The two optionals total 320, divided by 10 gives 32.00.

The average is 81.50.

Passing under the old system

This site shows no pass or fail for the old system, because the rule for it is not in the sources the calculator was built from. The average is all it reports.
